Universal Monster Ravenloft

Over at at Tales of the Grotesque and Dungeonesque, Jack points out that it would be trivially easy to have Strahd meet Dracula given the underlying conceits of Ravenloft. I wonder why we need Strahd at all? Why not replace the Darklords with the Universal Studios classic monsters? We might call this version Karloft because... well, why not?

The Mummy, Dracula, and Frankenstein (the Darklord would probably be Victor rather than his monster), would fit right in. The Invisible Man and the Phantom of the Opera ought to have their place too. The realm of the Creature from the Black Lagoon would be a bit of departure from the usual Gothic horror trappings, but I think it could be done.

Might there also be the realms of Hammer Horror?

Yep, with Peter Cushing's version of Van Helsing, and stuff from other movies of similar sensibility like Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter.

Actually, I've been itching to adapt Seanan McGuire's Moors from her Wayward Children series (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LM09RGE/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QFKY2PX/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1) for a little bit now, with a little bit of Terry Pratchett's Uberwald thrown in. Maybe there would be room for some bumbling commoners named Bud and Lou in there somewhere too...

Brilliant!

I just found my old Creature from the Black Lagoon 3-3/4" figure and discovered Super7's ReAction Figures of the Universal Monsters.

We need more of them in our life.
