A Roadside Picnic Discussion
A couple of weeks ago, Anne of DIY & Dragons and I had a conversation on science fiction novel Roadside Picnic and the ways it resembled and didn't resemble D&D. She posted that conversation over on her blog.

That's good stuff. You should do more "book club conversations" with Anne!
: )
Thanks! I think we might.
The point she raised about the OSR community acting as though there was One true Way to play back in early days when no such thing was true really hits home. It's one of the things that really bugs me about some of the more outspoken grognards - I played in the 70s myself, and I don't care to be told my experiences "weren't real D&D" by some reactionary blowhard. Way too many of that breed out there IME, although they reserve their worst venom for players who espouse the (considerable) merits of WotC era D&D.
