While I haven't seen it yet and it probably is s actually good I think this was created in part as a ploy to give DC a legal foot to sue people after Bat-Man enters the public domain in 2035.
Well, Batman's first appearance will be in public domain, but not everything that has been added to the character since then. Also, DC still retains a trademark on Batman's likeness, logo, and associated marks.
