Behind the Blurry Veil
...Or, “The Creation of a Petty Goddess”
Yesteryday, James Maliszewski of Grognardia gave me the good news that my Petty Gods submission, Drasheeng of the Blurry Veil was accepted, and he posted a great depiction of the deity in question by Mark Allen.
Drasheeng was conceived as the godling of misperception due to intoxication--and deception utilizing that misperception. She aides the aging harlot who relies on her client’s drink-blurred eyes to enhance her beauty, the roguish youth plying the reluctant maid with wine, and the confidence man who supplies intoxicants to muddle his marks’ better judgement.
The inspiration for this goddess came from the term “beer goggles” and musing on what that concept's patron diety would be like. How might she best exemplify it? I surmised she’d probably have a body like a Frazetta babe, and behind her blurry veil, a face like:
But of course, nobody ever sees that until the next morning...

Great concept! I submitted three and hope that they get accepted. If not, it's OK, I'll just reuse them for myself. The art is pretty fantastic as well.
Ew, and smell her lovely morning breath too no doubt. Great approach
Congratulations on the submission. What a fantastic idea!
Oh that's brilliant. I read the description on Grognardia and laughed. Didn't know it was your creation.
Nice...at least in terms of the concept...the actual godling, not so much, which makes it a great petty god. Congratulations for getting picked for the book. It's a fun project.
Thanks guys!
Very amusing goddess and congratulations on making it into the book.
I've posted the original write up for Tau, the guardian of tombs and cemeteries, on my new blog IX.
I think that I've been cursed by Drasheeng a few times in my youth! :p
Great idea for a deity.
She does get around.;) Thanks!
